In a spin-off from the US Holiday House project, which has so far raised over $1 million for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), more than 25 of the UK’s finest designers have come together to transform two adjoining houses in St John’s Wood, north west London. Each designer has decorated and furnished their space following a ‘holiday’ theme, which is not only a fun concept but a fantastic way to showcase designer talent while benefiting a great cause.
We were delighted to have been invited to design a bedroom scheme for this exceptional interior design exhibition. Our bedroom design is entitled ‘Striped Night’ and is inspired by the contrast between the structure of everyday life and the more relaxed, playful nature of holidays. The scheme features bold stripes reaching up and over the ceiling, a moody palette of blues and greens, and organic textures in the choice of the upholstered headboard and stools.
Our vision for the space was to create a story of structure juxtaposed with playful designs. The scheme was particularly inspired by a holiday Ros enjoyed in Belize with her husband. They travelled to the islands of San Pedro and Caye Caulker where they found paradise – beautiful white sandy beaches with palm trees and a very bohemian spirit – where they spent their days snorkelling, drinking cocktails and admiring the fantastic sunsets. It was a complete escape from civilisation, structure and schedules – exactly what a holiday should be. The design for ‘Striped Night’ is uncluttered, unique and gives a layered depth to the senses through the use of bold colours and mixed patterns.
This exquisite design exhibition is open to the public until 10th December 2017 with all proceeds from ticket sales going to the BCRF. It’s an exclusive opportunity to see a collection of distinctive and luxurious designs all under one roof, while at the same time raising crucial funds for the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
