Belsize Park

North West London

Nestled between vibrant Camden and charming Hampstead is beautiful Belsize Park with its leafy residential streets lined with impressive Georgian and Victorian villas converted into spacious apartments. The owners of this 2,138 square foot stucco-fronted property were looking for a complete redesign and appointed Roselind Wilson Design to carry out the refurbishment.

This stunning London property coupled with the client’s international influences allowed us to produce a striking architectural space – modern yet classic and with a focus on rich texture and ambient lighting.

The complete refurbishment, including interior architecture and design, of this 2,138 square foot duplex apartment in Belsize Park, North West London.

Project Overview

As a blank canvas, the property already demonstrated a spectacular foundation from which to start; with its extraordinary high ceilings, elaborate original cornicing and enormous windows flooding the rooms with light. The allocation and division of space were key considerations for this project; maximising each and every dimension of the full property while taking into account our client’s specific needs and requirements.

Luxury bathroom design

Using our expertise in interior architecture, we took space from the hallway to expand the master bathroom to fit a steam/sauna shower. This left the main wall opposite the master bedroom’s entrance for the showcase double vanity. In the guest bathroom, the bespoke mirror above the vanity reflects the storage unit behind, which was carefully constructed of doors using a veneer of the same marble to obtain a seamless look.

The finer details

Architectural details are statement features in their own right and add to the story and character of your home. We worked closely with English Heritage, the experts who champion and protect historic places, to restore the striking ceiling rose and ornate cornicing in the living room. This beautifully restored and historic Victorian detailing is a timeless addition to the interior scheme, not to mention the sense of refined luxury and classic contemporary sophistication it brings to a space.

From Concept
to Completion

As the design journey evolves, we develop concept images, interior layouts and design schemes, which we present and discuss in detail with our client.

We also communicate design schemes through detailed and accurate 3D renders, which allows visualisation of the space in context with the proposed design.

Room Spotlight: Kitchen

Our client’s wanted to adapt the existing reception room into a large kitchen and dining area to suit their lifestyle yet still allow the space to feel like a room and not specifically like a kitchen. They also wanted to incorporate their love of modern materials like metal, timber and marble into the space whilst still ensuring that it functioned efficiently.

Maximising the home’s space

The natural process for the design of the kitchen was to allow for a banquette seating area in the beautiful bay window. This would maximise the seating space and allow for a stunning oval marble table, which we set against a strong black and white striped fabric for the bespoke bench.

The remainder of the space was designed with a large kitchen island to accommodate the hobs and downdraft extractors. The sleek modular design of Kitchen Architecture’s Bulthaup B3 range creates a striking contrast against the period features of the room.

We wanted the island to feel like blocks of freestanding furniture rather than fitted joinery. The cabinet doors are a mix of black-brown oak veneer on the tall units and graphite laminate base units, with strips of bronze in the handle recesses.

"The end result was everything we could have imagined and more"

“The RWD team have been an absolute pleasure to work with. This project, being our first home renovation, could have been an extremely stressful experience. However, Ros and her team made the process really fun and seamless for us. They really listened to our needs and worked in a very organised and professional manner, with keen attention to detail.

They are extremely proactive and responded quickly and creatively to any issues that arose along the way. We felt they really cared about our home and the end result was everything we could have imagined and more! We look forward to having the opportunity to work with Ros and her team again in the future.”
