Richmond

South West London

With its tree-lined streets and diverse blend of old and new architecture, Richmond has an undeniable charm and is the perfect mix of country and town. Only a short distance from the beating heart of London, Richmond has been established as one of the most popular areas of the nation’s capital to live in.

We were delighted to carry out the full interior design of this 5,500 square foot mock-Tudor property in Richmond. Careful consideration was given to the architectural style of the property when designing the interior of this beautiful family home. Our client wanted a home that would be suitable for a young family but where reception rooms could also be transformed into formal entertaining spaces for guests.

Project Overview

Built in the 1920s and extended in the 1960s, this mock-Tudor house in Richmond is a truly beautiful home. The homeowners wanted a relaxed functional house with an interior scheme to complement the period architecture. Our design incorporates bespoke storage and clean lines, interspersed with distinct antique pieces and understated soft furnishings.

The open-plan living area was designed as a space for the whole family. The fabrics and finishes were carefully selected to ensure the space flowed seamlessly with the richly panelled snug and breakfast room, affectionately known as the Sunday room. The name and design of this room was inspired by our client’s desire to have a space devoted to weekend breakfasts and Sunday lunches.

Full luxury interior design

The design of each room started as a blank canvas taking into consideration the architectural details of the property, our client’s personal style and how they wanted each room to function. For the master bedroom, we chose an autumnal colour palette and used layers of texture to complement the room’s aesthetic, while sheer curtains soften the grand proportions and striking architectural features.

Every element of the children’s bedrooms has been carefully considered to provide fun and practicality – a space that can adapt as they grow. Each room features plenty of storage for books, games and toys as well as generous workspace for reading or homework.

From Concept
to Completion

As the design journey evolves, we develop concept images, interior layouts and design schemes, which we present and discuss in detail with our client.

We also communicate design schemes through detailed and accurate 3D renders, which allows visualisation of the space in context with the proposed design.

Spotlight: Art and Antiques

A well-balanced interior is created by the story of the home’s owners. One of the ways in which this story can be told is by showcasing the owner’s artwork that has been procured over time. In this instance, our client’s uncle is an established Austrian painter, giving each piece a deeply personal meaning.

Our client thoughtfully explained the importance of each piece, providing us with inspiration and a valuable steer for the design process. One of the most prominent pieces, titled Black Water, is proudly displayed in the Sunday room. The painting perfectly reflects the beautiful greenery from the windows and adds a contemporary element to a fairly traditional room.

Bespoke luxury interior design to create the perfect home

Antiques played an important role in the design scheme for this project, particularly as the property features such distinctive character. We sourced the perfect pieces to complement the scheme and their presence within this beautiful family home is connecting, grounding and welcoming.

One of the home’s ‘hidden gem’ antiques is the drinks cabinet in the open-plan dining area, which we sourced from Church Street Antiques in Marylebone, London. The cabinet’s beautiful burr finish with polished lacquer, decorative handles and intricate detailing adds charm and character to the space, while also providing just the right contrast to the more modern pieces that sit alongside.
