River Farm

Suffolk

Nestled within the Suffolk countryside, River Farm is a seventeenth-century farmhouse with centuries of history held in its fabric. This much-loved home had belonged to the same family for over 40 years and required a sensitive update – one that respected its heritage while supporting a more modern, intuitive way of living.

The brief called for a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic that felt relaxed and allowed the period architecture to guide the direction.

The centuries-old beams became the foundation of our scheme, informing a predominantly neutral palette that complemented the darker timber and allowed subtle texture to bring depth to each space.

Balancing old and new was central to the redesign; in the kitchen, teal shaker cabinetry sits comfortably alongside soft grey panelling and textured glass tiles. Elsewhere, quieter backgrounds let the farmhouse’s architectural character take precedence. Contemporary materials and discreet technological updates were introduced to add meaningful improvements to daily life. The outcome is a home that feels refreshed yet familiar – a considered evolution of a countryside property firmly anchored in its heritage.
