Carlton Hill

North West London

The owners of this St John’s Wood residence had reached a stage in their lives where their children had left home and it had been over a decade since they previously renovated and refurbished the property. They felt it was time for a change as their personal style and lifestyle had changed dramatically and they wanted their home to equally reflect this.

The property spans five floors, with space arranged with entertaining areas on the lower ground and ground floors and the bedrooms on the upper floors. A sweeping staircase allows for an elegant and graceful division between the entertainment and sleeping areas, which are all set against a backdrop of exquisitely balanced proportions, harmonious symmetry and classical detailing.

Project Overview

We worked with our client to review the home’s layout to be able to make changes, including structural adjustments, that would befit their lifestyle. One of these key changes was to create ‘his’ and ‘hers’ studies, as they were both working from home. Our client also wanted space to entertain up to 16 people on various occasions and had a requirement for formal living and informal living spaces as well as a suitable dining area that could be open plan, as well as accommodate more intimate dining. The kitchen and all bathrooms were to be redesigned together with new services including integrated lighting, audiovisual and security services.

Perfection is in the detail

We chose a colour palette that showcases neutral blues, soft greys, dusky pinks and flat whites to perfectly marry the interiors of striking beauty, modern-day luxury and contemporary styling. The carefully considered interior design scheme is balanced – the furniture, fabrics and colour palette all work in harmony with the architectural backdrop within the property.

The tiniest of details have been used to inject colour, texture or character to create an opulent interior – from incorporating striking cornicing to adorning the walls with elegant and sophisticated light fixtures. By infusing the space with a delicate balance of classic and contemporary styles, we have thoughtfully breathed new life into this welcoming home and created a legacy for future generations of the family.

From Concept
to Completion

As the design journey evolves, we develop concept images, interior layouts and design schemes, which we present and discuss in detail with our client.

We also communicate design schemes through detailed and accurate 3D renders, which allows visualisation of the space in context with the proposed design.

Room Spotlight: Master Bathroom

Creative Director Roselind Wilson takes us through the bathroom design:

It all started with the bath. We decided to place the bath under the large sash window and chose a design which mimics the curve of the walls. This then led to the decision to create an elliptical coffered ceiling above the bath to tie in with its curved shape.

The other key aspect with this bathroom design was to meet our client’s specific request to achieve a balance between aesthetics and functionality. They wanted a really functional bathroom – a powerful shower, a comfortable bath – but they were also very specific about materials.

“The other key aspect was to meet our client’s specific request to achieve a balance between aesthetics and functionality.”

The coffered ceiling is really central to the design of this bathroom. Inside its elliptical shape, we embedded LED lighting which casts a gentle wash of light over the fluted edges of the coffer. We always pay very close attention to the colour of our lighting schemes, so for this installation, we opted for 2700 Kelvin which gives a lovely, warm glow. This bespoke light feature creates a relaxing ambience in which to relax and unwind in the bath.
